


At the top of Core Values is QUALITY. Quality will never be compromised. One interesting demonstration of quality that is prevalent at UPI is the "Grandmother Rule." Any employee can invoke the Grandmother Rule. This means if you see or suspect a preparation is not of the quality that you would be confident to administer to your grandmother, then the process of moving a preparation through production will be stopped immediately. This rule alone empowers every person on the UPI team to be accountable for the level of quality that goes into every preparation. Once the Grandmother Rule is invoked, it can not be overridden by anyone.
Another key core value is "Customers Come First". We are a SERVICE organization. We serve hospitals, pharmacy directors, doctors, nurses, and patients. At UPI putting others needs before our own is part of our culture.
Accountability and Integrity are two core values that are demonstrated on a daily basis throughout the organization. In addition to each person having the authority to invoke the Grandmother Rule, every person takes their job as a personal mission.
Room to Grow is part of our culture that is both internal and external. The entire company spends 8 hours a month in training together. This builds cross departmental and cross functional teams that strive to constantly improve professionally as individuals, as teams and as a company.
By working together with our customers, UPI has developed superior solutions, such as our 100% shrink-wrapped tamper-proof packaging for our OR prefilled syringes. This was a direct result of UPI working hand in hand with a client-partner to resolve an issue they were facing. The current packaging makes it easy to distinguish an unopened syringe from one that has been opened.


Improving the Quality of Life for Patients: UPI provides preparations that are safe and effective. Color coding and TALLman lettering on labels along with our fully shrink-wrapped syringes are two examples of solutions UPI has implemented to improve patient safety. We continue to work with our client-partners to uncover new ways to improve patient safety.
Improving the Quality of Life for Doctors and Nurses: UPI works to understand common usages, dosing forms, and deliver preparations with clearly marked labels that are easy to read, while adhering to TallMan lettering and the ASTM color standards.
Improving the Quality of Life for Pharmacy Staff and Directors: UPI provides quality preparations with complete batch testing in a timely manner. Additionally, pharmacy staff are notified of order confirmations and expected delivery dates. No more guessing when something you need is going to show up on your dock.
